Message From Joe
Hello, I am Joe Gonzales, Bexar County Criminal District Attorney. When I ran for this office in 2018, I promised to improve the transparency and accountability of the District Attorney’s Office. Now, three years later, I am extraordinarily proud of the work my staff and I have done to make good on those promises and fulfill the voters’ mandate.
In the first 24 months of my administration, we undertook the deeply important and long process of digitizing our case records. By investing in the digital infrastructure of the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office we have created a system that allows for our staff to communicate about cases in real time and for us to communicate with the public about the types of cases that are filed with our office.
We have also worked to make sure that in Bexar County justice is sought fervently but fairly. We have implemented Bail Reform initiatives and a robust Cite & Release Diversion Program to make sure that low-level, non-violent offenders are held accountable in a way that reduces recidivism and promotes rehabilitative justice. These programs saved Bexar County taxpayer dollars, upward of $2.67 million, in the first 18 months.
I am grateful for the work I’ve been able to do in my time as District Attorney even in the face of a global pandemic. When I’m re-elected, I will continue this work and further expand my focus on transparency and accountability in the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
This election may seem distant, but we need your support now to ensure a victory for us and for our county. I hope you join me on this journey, and together we will continue building a District Attorney’s Office that seeks thoughtful justice while maintaining integrity and transparency.
I ask for your support and welcome the opportunity to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to email me at [email protected].
Thank you, and I hope to see you along the campaign trail,
Joe Gonzales
Bexar County Criminal District Attorney
